MY FRIEND MEGHAN: no me without her
We all long for friendship more than anything I think. We crave someone that understands us and who will support us no matter the decisions we make. Good or bad. And with us…most of the time it is bad.
It was the 6th grade and I had just transferred to a brand new school in Florida for the arts. I did not know anyone which was usually the case as I had moved schools about 4 times previously. A blonde girl sat next to me in homeroom and when she saw me humming a One Direction song I think she almost threw her backpack at me. She instantly interrogated me over who was my favorite and what were my top 3 songs on the Midnight Memories album were. We then discovered that we also came from hockey dads and that they even worked at the same rink together. Her dad was the ref for most of my dads games. Not only did we now have lengthy debates on if Harry or Zayn had better vocals, we also compared Penguins and Islanders stats at 11 years old. I am not sure we got any work done. Which makes sense because the two of us cannot pass college math. Sorry dad and Mr Brian.
Not only were we inseparable in school but at the rink after school as well. Like most of my friendships though, they did not last too long because I was moving to North Carolina the next year. Well we somehow could not get rid of each other. We made a pact that every birthday we would find a way to see each other. So we did. From 11 years old to celebrating my 21st birthday in June of this year we are now celebrating 10 years of friendship in it’s best form.
From traveling all across the country together, to moving to Wilmington, to matching One Direction tattoos, to hockey games, to heart wrenching teenage breakups, to laughter that never ends, to enabling the worst behavior, to screaming together over job offers, to hospital visits and crazy car crashes, to weird co workers girlfriends (you know) and to sharing the same brain for the last 10 years…..I have never been more blessed to share my gratitude for the person she is. Where there is Ciera, Meghan is probably very close by.
Soulmates are always typically known as someone that you are in a relationship with but I do not always think that is the case. A soul mate is someone that your soul has connected too in a past life. There is no doubt in my mind that she is mine.
Moving around as a kid I did long for someone that would stick by my side through it all and boy has she truly seen it all. I will never take our memories for granted and I can’t even begin to imagine what our future will look like. And I truly mean that because we have a severe spending problem and we will probably blow all of our money on a European villa together to retire in.
You are sunshine in human form and do not deserve anything less than the stars. I love you very much. Even if you are a Maple Leafs fan now. Not sure where the Penguins went but we can let that go.
